"One of the main goals of human birth is to attain a higher level of spiritual consciousness during one's lifetime" - does this sound cliche? Is it something that has bounced over your head? No matter, how abstract the statement sounds, in reality, all the enligtened souls who have tread on this earth had been rattling the same mantra for eons.
Before you start wondering if I'm getting angelic, let me spill the beens! In conversation with a close friend we stumbled upon a topic on spiritual consciousness, which not only left me amused but also influenced me to again go rambling.
Spiritual consciousness can be said to be like a self-tuned device in us, which if tuned correctly, helps us to accept life's pragamatic truths and behavior with ease and joy. It brings in a sense of total harmony in us irrespective of the amalgamation of deceit, pain, and disdained external behaviors.
Our conversation about the spiritual consciousness of human beings led to the discussion about a renowned psychiatrist, Dr. David Hawkins. According to Dr. Hawkins, every person's spiritual consciousness can be mapped in a scale from 1 to 1000. Dr Hawkins's had been researching on a well-based science, called, kinesiology for the last 29 years , which describes the synergy between the human consciousness and the response of the body muscles to a stimuli. He has termed this effect as the "muscle testing" of one's consciousness. He reiterates that every muscle of our body reacts differently for different situations, which in turn plays important roles in raising our spiritual consciousness. It seems, that the spiritual consciousness can be calibrated! Does this sound strange? We would have never thought about our muscles playing a major role in our conscious upliftment?right? It was even more interesting to know that as per staistics, the enlightened souls, such as Buddha and Christ were at a conscious level of 650, while Gandhiji's was calibrated to be about 500.
It is said that the consciousness of the whole humanity or of people of a country can also be calculated using the same methodologies. I was surprised to know that country like India as a nation, is calibrated at a level, 203 in its collective consciousness, whereas the collective consciousness of the people of Europe and America is found to be 350!! This was totally unbelievable!! I was trying to protest mentally, about how could a land that is the origin of the Vedas and Upanishaads be so low in spiritual awareness?? Countries such as Iraq and Iran are studied to be at a value,102, which is quite understandable to me for reasons best observed.
The consciousness quotient of a mass depends on the level of integrity that the people of the nation beholds. We, as a nation, hold low in our integrity when compared to the other European nations. On trying to get my own interpretation about being small in our integrity, I could rationalize that spirituality cannot be the forte of the empty stomachs! A nation of all equals in wealth and health need not compromise on their integrity, but a nation that has billions of people malnourished and impoverished, can get tempted to compromise on their integrity! The other side of the picture can be that we might compromise our values to keep our pace in the rat race for a good job, a hefty bank balance, and a socially acclaimed lifestyle! Even though my heart tells me to deny my own fears, the reality might be a scary story to unearth.
Nevermind, it was at least gladdening to know, that the world is always blessed with a blend of people who are at a high spiritual conscious level. These highly aware people balances the collective consciousness on this planet by compensating for all the ignorant beings. I do not know whether the spiritual consciousness levels of us are degrading or upgrading with time, but I would be happy if I can leave behind a legacy of a more "consciously aware" world for the future generations to come!
